Friday evenings often bring a chance to slow down, reconnect with loved ones, and reflect on the week. This past Friday was no different. It was a night spent with my mom and my puppy, Ruby, and my Dog, Oso, filled with simple pleasures, thoughtful moments, and plans for the days ahead. Here’s a look at how the evening unfolded, from meals to meaningful family time, and the small steps I’m taking toward future goals.

A Simple Food Journey Through the Day

Food can tell a story about how we care for ourselves and what we value in the moment. My day’s meals were modest but satisfying:

  • Breakfast: Two slices of 30-calorie peanut butter toast paired with a crisp apple. This combo gave me a good balance of protein, fiber, and a touch of sweetness.

  • Lunch: Two mini cucumbers and two hard-boiled eggs. The cucumbers added freshness and crunch, while the eggs provided lasting energy.

  • Dinner: A hamburger patty topped with tomato and lettuce, accompanied by three French fries. I only needed a small taste of fries to satisfy a craving without overdoing it.

This food journal reflects a mindful approach to eating, balancing nutrition with small indulgences. It’s a reminder that meals don’t have to be complicated to be enjoyable and nourishing.

Quality Time with Mom and Ruby

Spending time with family can recharge the spirit. My mom and I started watching the fourth season of Lincoln Lawyer, which has been captivating so far. It’s a great way to share moments and stories without saying much.

When I came home, I found my mom had washed my bedding and helped me put it on the bed. That simple act of care felt comforting and grounding. Ruby, my playful puppy, added joy to the evening with her lively energy.

Managing Responsibilities and Health

Even on relaxing nights, responsibilities call. I need to complete tax paperwork for my clients, including making copies and organizing files. Staying on top of these tasks helps reduce stress later.

Tomorrow, I will take my tirzepatide shot. I recently found a new pharmacy offering the medication at a lower price, which is a relief given the high cost of brand-name drugs. The Trumprx site also lists cheaper options, but even $299 for the brand name feels steep. Managing health expenses is a constant challenge, but finding better options helps.

I didn’t weigh myself this week because I didn’t have access to a scale at a doctor’s office. I plan to check my weight on Tuesday, which means it will be a two-week update. Tracking progress in health is important, but it’s also okay to pause and pick it up again when ready.

Reflecting on Family and Memories

This week, my thoughts have often turned to my daughter. Sharing some of her basketball videos on social media feels more alive than photos alone. Videos capture her movements, expressions, and spirit in a way that still images cannot. It’s a way to celebrate her energy and presence.

Losing a teenager is unimaginable, and I don’t know how people manage to live normally after such a loss. It reminds me to cherish every moment with family and hold onto the memories we create.
