Starting a weight loss journey is never easy, especially when life throws unexpected challenges your way. Today, I want to share a personal update that reflects progress. On November 17, I weighed 272.9 lbs (122.8 kg) at the doctor’s office, which I now recognize as my true starting weight. Since then, I have lost 22.1 lbs, bringing me down to 250.8 lbs. This milestone feels incredible, but the road has not been smooth. Between medication issues, banking frustrations, and daily responsibilities, today was a tough day. Still, I want to celebrate this progress and share what I’ve learned along the way.

Understanding the Real Starting Point

When I began my weight loss journey on December 5, I thought my starting weight was different. However, the official measurement from November 17 at the doctor’s office—272.9 lbs—is the accurate baseline. This correction is important because it helps me track my progress honestly and stay motivated. Knowing that I have already lost 22.1 lbs gives me a clear sense of achievement.

Managing Mental Health Alongside Weight Loss

One of the biggest challenges I faced recently was not having my anxiety and depression medication for three days. I take between 1.5 or 2 pills daily, and I needed my doctor to adjust the prescription to avoid running out again. This gap affected my mood and energy, making it harder to stay focused on my goals.

Mental health plays a crucial role in any lifestyle change. When anxiety or depression flare up, motivation can dip, and frustration can build quickly. It’s essential to address these issues proactively:

  • Communicate openly with your healthcare provider about medication needs.

  • Have a plan to avoid running out of prescriptions.

  • Practice self-compassion during difficult days.

Taking care of mental health supports physical health and helps maintain steady progress.

Overcoming Daily Frustrations

Today was especially frustrating because of a banking issue. Despite having a positive balance, my card was declined due to an “insufficient funds” message. After spending over an hour on the phone, I was told to wait 24 hours, which was not an option for my immediate needs.

These kinds of setbacks can feel overwhelming, especially when you have important tasks to complete. I had to go to town to buy chicken and supplies for a catering event this weekend. Even with the stress, I managed to prepare a homemade stew for my grandma using the crockpot, which was a comforting moment in an otherwise tough day.

Balancing daily responsibilities with personal goals requires patience and flexibility. Here are some tips that helped me:

  • Prioritize urgent tasks but allow room for unexpected delays.

  • Find small moments of joy, like cooking a meal for loved ones.

  • Keep a list of backup plans for common issues (e.g., banking problems).

Expanding Food Options for Weight Loss

Part of maintaining weight loss is keeping meals interesting and satisfying. Today, I found some new foods to add to my rotation:

  • Chicken sausages

  • Carb-free tortillas

  • Philly-style chicken meat for sandwiches

  • Everything bagel seasoning

These options help me stay on track without feeling deprived. Variety in meals prevents boredom and supports long-term adherence to healthy eating habits.

When choosing new foods, consider:

  • Nutritional content (protein, carbs, fats)

  • Convenience for busy days

  • Flavor and texture preferences

Experimenting with different ingredients can make your weight loss journey more enjoyable and sustainable.

Staying Positive Through Setbacks

It’s okay to have days when emotions run high. Today, I cried big, ugly tears from stress and frustration. But I also recognize that these moments are part of the process. Weight loss is not just about numbers on a scale; it’s about resilience and self-care.

Celebrate your wins, no matter how small. Losing 22.1 lbs is a significant achievement that reflects dedication and hard work. Keep moving forward, even when life gets complicated.
