Travel days often bring a mix of excitement and bittersweet moments. On December 26th, a trip to Yakima unfolded with plenty of fun, family time, and a few new experiences. This journey was not just about the destination but also about the moments shared along the way.

A Change in the Usual Route and Ride

Typically, the drive over White Pass is handled by one person, but this time, the cousin Yogi took the wheel. Driving over the mountains with Gavin and me in the car was a refreshing change. The vehicle choice added to the comfort was a 4-door Toyota Pickup.

Fun and Food in Yakima

Once in Yakima, the day was packed with activities. The highlight for the kids was a visit to a local fun center arcade. It was a lively place filled with games and laughter, a perfect spot for children to burn off energy and have a blast. After the arcade, we stopped at Dairy Queen for a casual meal, a treat that everyone appreciated.

The food journal for the day was simple but satisfying:

  • Breakfast: Egg and cheddar, Starbucks protein box and a vente Chestnut Praline Latte

  • Lunch: One chicken strip and one chicken tamale

  • Dinner: Half a chicken and half a pork tamale

This mix of meals kept energy levels steady throughout the day.

Comfortable Stay and Quiet Moments

Yogi rented a VRBO, a cute carriage house that provided a cozy and comfortable base for the trip. While Yogi and Gavin ventured out to the Legends Casino, located on a dry reservation with no alcohol allowed, I chose to stay in. This quiet time was perfect for relaxing, watching Netflix, and catching up on homework. It was a chance to recharge and enjoy some peaceful solitude amid the busy day.

Wrapping Up the Day

The boys returned from the casino earlier than expected, happy and glad they had fun. The day was a mix of activity and rest, family bonding, and personal time. Leaving Yakima is always tough, especially after such a memorable day, but the experiences and moments shared make the trip worthwhile.
