A Day of Brunch, Therapy, and New Haircuts—Finding Joy in the Little Things

Sometimes, the best days are the ones filled with simple moments that bring comfort and connection. Today was one of those days. It started with making brunch for Grandma and Mitch, included a therapy session, a fresh haircut, and ended with plans for a catering event. Along the way, there were small joys and reflections that reminded me how important it is to appreciate the little things in life.
Morning Brunch with Grandma and Mitch
The day began with a cozy brunch at home. I prepared tortilla and egg veggie burritos with some ham for Grandma and Mitch. I used carb counter tortillas, which made the meal feel lighter but still satisfying. It was a nice way to start the day, sharing food and conversation with family.
The burritos were packed with fresh veggies and eggs, offering a good balance of protein and fiber. Adding ham gave a savory touch without overwhelming the flavors. Cooking for loved ones always adds a special warmth to the meal.

A Light Dinner and Calorie Awareness
For dinner, I treated myself to one slice of pickle pizza. It was delicious and clocked in at about 250 to 300 calories. Alongside the pizza, I had a Casa Mia side salad with blue cheese dressing. I only ate half the salad because I was already feeling full.

I bought a small pizza and plan to freeze the remaining slices for future meals. This way, I can enjoy the taste again without the pressure of eating it all at once. It’s a simple strategy that helps manage portions and reduces food waste.
Even with these meals, I know my calories stayed in a deficit today. That’s okay because some days are lighter than others, and listening to my body is key.
Therapy Session and Managing Anger
I had a therapy appointment today, which I’m glad I made time for. The session had to be cut short because more people showed up than expected, but I’ll make it up next week.
We talked about managing anger, especially when my Aunt gets on my nerves. It’s something I’m learning to process better. Therapy helps me find ways to deal with those feelings without letting them build up. It’s a work in progress, but every step counts.
Fresh Haircut and Self-Care
Later in the day, I got a haircut. The stylist cut it pretty short, which was a bit of a surprise, but I’m okay with it for now. Shorter hair means I can fix it more easily in the morning, and sometimes a change like this feels refreshing.
Taking time for self-care, even something as simple as a haircut, can boost confidence and mood. It’s a reminder that caring for yourself matters.
Quality Time with Mitch and Looking Ahead
Spending the day with Mitch was fun and exactly what I needed. Getting out and sharing moments with someone close helps break the routine and brings joy.

Remembering Mercedes and Looking Forward
This month, I’ve been missing Mercedes more than usual. Her birthday is coming up on the 17th, and she would have been sweet 16. I find myself thinking about what she might be doing—driving, dating, and enjoying life.

Remembering loved ones can bring a mix of emotions. It’s okay to feel that sadness and also celebrate the memories. Holding onto those thoughts helps keep her close in a way.

Today was a reminder that joy doesn’t always come from big events or grand gestures. It’s in the small things: cooking a meal, sharing time with family, taking care of yourself, and even managing tough emotions.
By focusing on these moments, it’s easier to find balance and peace. Whether it’s a simple brunch, a therapy session, or a fresh haircut, these experiences add up to a day well spent.
