Travel days often come with a mix of excitement and exhaustion, but they also offer moments worth savoring. Today, the 28th of December, was no exception. From early morning travel to family visits and a day filled with simple but satisfying meals, this day captured the essence of holiday travel and connection.

Morning Fuel and Early Travel

The day started early at 7 a.m. with a quick but nourishing breakfast to power through the journey. The meal included a slice of multigrain and seeds toast spread with peanut butter, a hard-boiled egg, and half an apple. Alongside this, a chestnut praline latte added a cozy, seasonal touch to the morning routine.

This breakfast balanced protein, healthy fats, and fruit, providing steady energy for the road ahead. The peanut butter on multigrain toast offered fiber and sustained fullness, while the egg contributed essential protein. The apple added a fresh, natural sweetness, making it a well-rounded start.

Traveling Home and Family Time

The trip began from Yakima, heading home early to make the most of the day. Along the way, a stop in town allowed for grocery shopping and picking up propane, practical errands that fit into the travel schedule. A special highlight was meeting with mom, who brought along Ruby, the new puppy. Ruby’s first shopping trip added a joyful, lively element to the day.

Arriving at grandma’s house brought a warm family reunion. Time spent with Gavin’s daughters and cousin Ryan created moments of connection and laughter. The presence of Yogi, a beloved family pet, added comfort and familiarity to the visit.

Meals Throughout the Day

Lunch was simple and satisfying with a serving of eight pieces of popcorn chicken. This choice offered a familiar comfort food that was easy to enjoy on the go. Later, dinner included four more pieces of popcorn chicken paired with a slice of pumpkin pie, blending savory and sweet flavors.

The pumpkin pie added a festive note to the meal, a reminder of holiday traditions and seasonal flavors. While popcorn chicken is often seen as a casual snack, it served as a convenient and enjoyable meal option during a busy travel day.

Staying in a VRBO and Observations on Travel Comfort

The family stayed in a VRBO rental, where the beds were notably soft and comfortable. Despite this, there was a preference expressed for hotels with pools and hot tubs, which offer additional relaxation options after a day of travel and visiting.

One interesting observation was the condition of White Pass, which was bare and dry with no snow on the road. This detail highlights how weather can impact travel plans and experiences, especially during winter months.

Reflecting on the Day

This day combined practical travel, family connections, and simple meals into a memorable experience. The early start, the mix of errands and visits, and the comfort of familiar foods created a balanced rhythm. Spending time with Ruby the puppy and spending time with family added warmth and joy.
