Life often surprises us in the most unexpected ways. One day can hold moments of laughter, unexpected meetings, and small adventures that turn an ordinary routine into a memorable story. This particular Tuesday was exactly like that—a day filled with family fun, a visit to the retina specialist, and some surprising encounters on the road.

Visiting the Retina Specialist with Mom
The day started with a visit to the retina specialist for my mom’s eye scan. Eye appointments can sometimes feel routine or even a bit stressful, but this one had a lighthearted twist. I teased my mom, joking that after the scan, she now identifies as the incredible Hulk. It was a fun way to ease any tension and bring some smiles to the appointment.
Retina scans are important for detecting early signs of eye conditions such as macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy. These scans provide detailed images of the back of the eye, helping doctors monitor eye health closely. My mom’s appointment reminded me how crucial it is to keep up with regular eye check-ups, especially as we age.
A Day Fueled by a Chipotle Bowl
After the appointment, food was definitely on my mind. I had a Chipotle bowl with steak, and honestly, I ate it almost all day. It was that good. I shared a little with my dog, who seemed to enjoy the treat, but mostly, I indulged in the flavors myself. Sometimes, a simple meal can turn into a comfort food moment that brightens the day.
Lunch with Lara and the Grandgirls
Later, we met up with Lara and the grandgirls for lunch. It was a lively and joyful gathering. Spending time with family, especially the younger generation, always brings a fresh burst of energy and happiness. The grandgirls were full of stories and laughter, making the lunch feel like a small celebration.
Family moments like these remind us how important it is to make time for those we love. Even a simple meal can become a cherished memory when shared with close family.
Unexpected Encounters on the Freeway and at Walmart
The most surprising part of the day happened while we were driving. On the freeway in Olympia, my mom suddenly said, “Look to your left!” There, on I-5, was my Aunt Sheila. What a coincidence to spot her on the freeway like that!
But the surprises didn’t end there. Later, when we stopped at Walmart in Aberdeen on the way home, guess who we saw again? Aunt Sheila! Running into her twice in one day, in two different places, felt like a small miracle. It was a reminder of how small the world can feel sometimes, especially when family is involved.
Extra Time at Home with Mom
Usually, I stay at my grandma’s from Sunday through Friday, but this time, I got to spend a few extra days at home with my mom. That extra time was a gift. It allowed us to relax, catch up, and enjoy each other’s company without the usual rush.
Spending quality time with family, especially parents, is something many of us wish for more often. These moments build stronger bonds and create lasting memories.
Progress in Therapy and Looking Ahead
I also have therapy scheduled for tomorrow. Lately, I’ve been making great progress, so much so that I’m probably going to reduce my visits to once a month. Therapy has been a valuable part of my journey toward better mental health. It’s encouraging to see improvement and feel more balanced.
Counseling can be a powerful tool for anyone facing challenges. It offers support, guidance, and a safe space to work through difficult emotions. If you’re considering therapy, know that progress takes time, but it’s worth the effort.
This day was a mix of health care, family fun, good food, and surprising moments on the road. It showed how ordinary days can turn into stories worth sharing. Whether it’s a playful joke during an eye appointment, a meal shared with loved ones, or unexpected meetings with family, these moments add richness to our lives.
